Assisting Mr Stephenson in his railway work in Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Cheshire and Lancashire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1834-5&nbsp;<strong>Whitby &amp; Pickering<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Construction<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Midland &amp; East junction<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Assistant to Stephenson, responsible for surveying the railway<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stockport &amp; Warrington<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Assistant to Stephenson, responsible for surveying the line, providing estimates and preparation of reports.  Assisting Mr Stephenson in his railway work in Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Cheshire and Lancashire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1835-6&nbsp;<strong>Whitby &amp; Pickering<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Construction<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stockport &amp; Manchester<\/strong>&nbsp;(7 miles) \u2013 Assistant to Stephenson, superintended survey, Parliamentary plans and sections, detailed estimates, gave evidence in Committee in Parliament<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Manchester &amp; South Union Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;(71 miles) \u2013 examined the country and attended in London to oppose other railways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Huddersfield &amp; Leeds Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;(16 miles) \u2013 Assistant to Stephenson, surveyed the country, superintended surveys, set out the line, made plans and sections for deposit with the Clerks of the Peace, made drawings of works, estimates of cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>London &amp; Blackwall Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Consultant<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>York &amp; North Midland Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;(20 miles) \u2013 Assistant to Stephenson, examined the country, superintended the survey and deposit of plans, detailed drawings of bridges, detailed estimates, superintended valuation of land, canvassed landowners, attended Committees of Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>North Midland Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Assistant to Stephenson \u2013 examined country from Derby to Leeds, superintended surveys, made drawings, detailed estimates, attended Committees of Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sheffield &amp; Rotherham Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;(5 miles) \u2013 engineer in chief. Examined country, superintended surveys, deposited plans, made drawings, estimates, attended Parliamentary Committee<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1836-7&nbsp;<strong>Whitby &amp; Pickering Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 completed construction<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>North Midland Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Setting out railway, making detailed drawings, letting contracts, superintending construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Doncaster, North Midland &amp; Goole Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;(22 miles) Acting engineer \u2013 Superintended surveys, examined the country, waited upon landowners, made estimates<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1838-40&nbsp;<strong>North Midland Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 constructing and completion<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sheffield &amp; Rotherham Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 constructing and completion<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1841-4&nbsp;<strong>North Midland Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 resident engineer. Surveying, preparing plans obtaining Acts of Parliament for extensions to the Midland Railway such as Erewash Valley, Nottingham and Lincoln, Nottingham and Mansfield, Pinxton and Mansfield, junction railways between Midland Railway and Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1844-5&nbsp;<strong>Darfield to Worsborough<\/strong> (5 miles); <strong>Darfield to Elsecar<\/strong> (3 miles); <strong>Chevet to Horbury<\/strong> (4 miles); <strong>Oakenshaw to Wakefield<\/strong> (3 miles); <strong>Ambergate to Crich<\/strong> (3 miles) Robert Stephenson and Frederick Swanwick engineers. Country examined, lines surveyed, plans deposited, estimates and design made<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Swinton to Lincoln Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;(44 miles) Robert Stephenson &amp; Frederick Swanwick engineers \u2013 examined country, superintended survey, deposited plans, made estimates and designs. Attended Committees of Parliament, and opposing Wakefield, Pontefract and Goole Railways, also Manchester, Sheffield and Midland Junction Railway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1845-6&nbsp;<strong>Leeds,Wakefield and Midland Junction Railway<\/strong>, (6 miles) Frederick Swanwick engineer. Examined country, took trial levels, superintended surveys, lithograph plans and sections, attended Parliamentary Committees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Great Grimsby, Louth, Horncastle, Lincoln and Midland Junction Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;(45 miles). Examined Country, superintended surveys, deposited plans, made drawings, estimates, examined opposing railway projects, attended Committees of Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eastern Counties Railway<\/strong>, (54 miles) \u2013 Robert Stephenson and Frederick Swanwick, engineers. Examined country, directing and completing surveys, detailed estimates, attended Parliamentary Committees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<strong>Sheffield, Bakewell and West Midland Railway<\/strong>, (32 miles) \u2013 Robert Stephenson and Frederick Swanwick<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Northampton, Banbury and Cheltenham Railway<\/strong>. Examined country, superintended surveys, deposited plans, made drawings and estimates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wakefield and Harrogate Railway<\/strong>, (18 miles) \u2013 Frederick Swanwick engineer. Examined country, superintended surveys, deposited plans, made drawings and estimates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1847-8&nbsp;<strong>Newark and Gainsboro\u2019 Railway<\/strong>&nbsp;(20 miles) Robert Stephenson and Frederick Swanwick engineers, Superintended surveys, deposited plans, made drawings and estimates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1848-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;No new enterprises noted.
